One of the first questions asked of couples announcing their engagement is, “When’s the wedding?”
It’s a good idea to pick a date (or just a time of year) before you start planning the wedding details. Setting a date isn’t always easy, because the date can indicate weather conditions, and determine the availability of wedding venues, price and how many guests will be able to attend.
Take into mind how these different times of the year might affect your wedding:
* The summer is nice, but that’s when everyone gets married. Unless you’re planning a long engagement (two years out is a strong possibility) so you can get your name on busy wedding calendars, or plan to spend money to make it all happen, you might discover a beautiful June Saturday just isn’t going to work.
There are many ways to make a winter wedding romantic and beautiful. If want to use romantic candlelight to enhance the atmosphere, consider planning an early evening wedding and illuminating the ceremony with lanterns. Another plus for a winter wedding – you can celebrate your honeymoon in the warm tropics.
* Busy Saturdays can limit available dates for your wedding. You may discover it’s cheaper to schedule your wedding for a Friday. But you may limit your guests and attendants who can attend and afford to take a day off work. If you decide to go the destination wedding route, holding the wedding on a Tuesday is a great idea since all your guests will already be on vacation and enjoying the setting.
* Don’t forget about your honeymoon travel plans. It’s easier to find travel deals during the off season – for example plan a snowy honeymoon in Maine in January or hit the pool in Arizona during the hot summer months. In addition to spending less money, another bonus for honeymooning in the off season is you won’t be bothered by huge numbers of tourists, and can actually enjoy the vacation with your spouse.
