This week I decided to do something different for Wedding Dress Wednesday. I watched the Sex & The City movie and realized how Carrie Bradshaw is the Queen of non-traditional weddings. I also realized how fabulous Carrie's dress was for her wedding that never was.
Carrie wore an elaborate Vivienne Westwood dress that literally took my break away. Carrie Bradshaw is the only bride who can be left at the altar, with a giant feather in her hair and still look stunning doing so.
The wedding dress she wore is what put Vivienne Westwood on the map. Shortly after the movie opened Westwood released a shortened version of the gown that sold out almost immediately. This proves despite Carrie Bradshaw being a fictional character she is still is one of the most influential fashion icons.
Similar to the Vivienne Westwood gown, another wedding trend sparked by Bradshaw was the Black Diamond Ring. At the end of Sex & The City 2 Mr. Big gives Carrie a gorgeous 5-carat black diamond ring as "punishment" for kissing Aiden while vacationing in Abu Dhabi. The ring was to be a reminder that she is married. Thats a punishment I would gladly accept.
After seeing the movie everyone, including myself, wanted a ring like Carrie's. Almost overnight black diamond engagement rings were popping up everywhere.
Since the show started Carrie Bradshaw has always been a true trend-setter with her offbeat style so its only natural she applied that style to her wedding dress and ring. Even though her dress and ring weren't as traditional as most, they are still styles we love.
Would you wear the Vivienne Westwood dress like Carrie's for your big day? How about the black diamond? Would you chose a black diamond over the traditional diamond engagement ring?
