Sometimes simplicity is all that's needed to create a beautiful and romantic wedding. That's the route Dancing With the Stars host Brooke Burke and actor David Charvet took when they were married on a boat just off the shore of St. Barts in August.
The entire family, two friends, and the boat captain dressed in white for the occasion. The bride wore a dress designed by Mark Zunino and heeled sandals by Jimmy Choo. The setting made for a perfect and private union between the couple and their children, and they later shared it with family and friends via photos.
If you and your soon-to-be spouse are interested in a simple private ceremony, here are some tips you can follow to pull it off:
* Get married on a week day - As Julia Robert's character in "Runaway Bride" discovered, she didn't want a big wedding, and Tuesday was her choice for a perfect wedding day.
* Be spontaneous - Take an impulsive trip to Las Vegas, go to your local courthouse or ask a local minister the day before if he can perform the ceremony. Make sure you check with the local and state laws on timing for applying for a wedding license.
* Keep it private - Hold the ceremony in your backyard or, like Brooke and David, in a privately hired location. Only involve those who absolutely must be involved - an officiant, witnesses and any children who will be involved in the new family.
* Announce your wedding after the fact - Send out the news of your wedding after it's all over. Be sure to share some photos of the beautiful event. If you feel a celebration with family and friends is needed, plan a party after the fact, which will be less stressful because you won't have to plan the ceremony.
